NRL are proud to be partnering with AESC to recruit a permanent Senior Construction Manager based at their brand-new facility in Sunderland.

AESC has over 7,000 employees and 13 manufacturing sites in Japan, U.S., U.K. and France. 

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of one of the North East’s highest profile manufacturing plants as we are expanding our operations at our battery manufacturing plant in Sunderland. We are looking for an experienced Construction Senior Manager to join the Engineering team in order to support current and future building, plus site expansion plans. This is a unique opportunity to join one of the most exciting, large scale industrial developments in many years, where new and emerging technologies will be adopted in support of the rapidly growing electric vehicle marketplace. 

Working as part of the core AESC team, you will have a strong mechanical bias and support the construction and equipment integration elements of the UK’s first ‘at scale Gigafactory’. You will be responsible for schedule adherence and support facilitation of construction plus maintenance of buildings plans and associated projects. 

Responsibilities:

  • Represent the construction department - you will lead the construction of the project. This will include the building aspects from the initial project phase to mass production of the Gigafactory and beyond.

  • Ensure all building elements are safe and legally compliant from design to integration and implementation. This will be done via design reviews, on and off-site inspection tests working with both the construction Man Contractors team and EAUK in-house teams.

  • The successful candidates will have a broad-based experience in the construction field and be able to demonstrate proven skills in integration and implementation of the latest standards and procedures.

  • QCSD (All aspects of cost and delivery of the project to the required quality and safety standards).

  • Liaison with local authority (land requirement, planning applications, etc.).

  • Liaison with statutory authorities.

  • Understanding of customer requirements (operational process and maintenance team needs).

  • Preparation and delivery of management reports (weekly, monthly TQM summaries).

  • Knowledge of manufacturing process construction requirements including all MEP utility requirements (including fire safety and process systems including specialist gas and chemical delivery systems).

  • Development of the team through IDPs and succession planning.

  • Understanding the role of the team post construction phase.

  • Understanding of energy market and renewable energy opportunities.

  • Supporting Facility Management (FM) post construction through soft landing approach of asset delivery.

  • Coordination of MEP within the project team, with particular focus on MEP ensuring interfaces with other M&E and construction works packages are captured in a timely manner.

  • Positively influence post construction operations assessing depreciation, running and environmental impact costs.

Background and experience required:

  • A strong background in mechanical services, operation, design, and maintenance.

  • Good inter-communication & report writing skills.

  • Computer literate, MS project, Excel, etc.

  • Familiar with design packages and software (e.g. Hevacomp, Revit, Navisworks).

  • Good understanding of BIM.

  • Able to demonstrate a positive and logical attitude.

  • Good negotiation skills.

  • Planning, schedule control & project management.

  • Working with third parties such as local and statutory authorities .

Education:

  • Mechanical degree / construction degree / or equivalent 

Additional:

  • Demonstrate management of contractors, and interfacing with potential equipment suppliers.
