We are looking for an experienced Fire Safety Engineer to be part of one of the North East’s highest profile manufacturing plants as we are expanding our operations at our battery manufacturing plant in Sunderland. This is a unique and rare opportunity to join one of the most exciting and advanced industrial developments in many years where new and emerging technologies will be adopted in support of the rapidly growing electric vehicle sector.

You will support the client and sit within the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Department (SHEQ) reporting to the Senior SHEQ Manager but working closely with the projects team during build and commissioning activities.

 
Outline and Responsibilities:

  • Provision of technical fire engineering advice to the Construction, Services and Engineering teams throughout the full Gigafactory development lifecycle, including concept and developed design phases through to commissioning and testing phases. Following commissioning completion, ensure ongoing compliance with relevant fire system standards and codes of practice.
  • Liaison with regulatory bodies, local authorities, building control and insurance risk engineers as required throughout the fire system design and development phases to ensure delivery of a fully compliant system design.
  • Identification of plant and process fire risks and development of fire risk assessments, FMEA and cause and effect schedules in conjunction with fire system design development.
  • Preparation and documentation of site fire safety management plans and Provide input and guidance to the site COMAH team regarding the Major Accident Prevention Plan and development of MAH’s.
  • Provide guidance on current legislation, relevant national and international standards and guidelines and emerging legislative changes.
  • Establishment of the sites, fire detection, suppression and monitoring system and annual maintenance service contracts and management of system warranty periods.
  • Manage and maintain the businesses fire system contractor.
  • Preparation and upkeep of a sitewide Fire Safety Logbook. Establish and maintain Fire Risk Assessments for buildings and facilities.
  • Provide support and guidance regarding fire and Major Accident Hazard Scenarios and maintain the business MAH Pre-plans.
 

Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • Demonstrable experience in a relevant Fire Safety Engineering role, ideally gained from working on or supporting Upper Tier COMAH establishments.
  • Development of Fire Safety Strategies to ensure early approval from authorities and advanced Fire Safety Design to demonstrate fire safety engineering compliance.
  • Expert advice and support during the Statutory Approval and construction process.
  • Evacuation Strategies development and familiarity with modelling software.
  • Structural Fire Engineering and optimisation of Fire Safety Systems.
  • Development of Fire Risk Management and Assessment & experience with Fire Investigation.
  • Knowledge of Fire Safety and Environmental compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrable experience in Feasibility Studies for master-planning and concept design.
  • Strong PC and presentation skills including MS applications, MS Project and AutoCad coupled with a strong ability to problem-solve.
