NRL are looking to recruit a talented Test Development Engineer to work with an engineering company who design, manufacture, test fire detection and life safety systems based in Wigan.


About the role:

  • Collaborate with the R&D team during product development, you will define and implement the test strategy for functional and compliance requirements.  This can range from low volume manual test to high volume, fully automated programme and test.

  • Testers may be stand-alone go, no-go, or may be networked consoles under LabVIEW control as appropriate.

  • Need to have an analytical and methodical approach to all aspects of your work.

  • Synthesise solutions to problems and test them through simulation and practical prototype.

  • Taking technical ownership of a project from beginning to end, bringing in the support of colleagues as required. 

  • Strong confidence in your abilities and awareness of your limitations that you will be able to agree reasonable timescales and work to achieve them.

  • Exercise your skills and experience to design and support testers for new and existing products. 

  • Communicating with colleagues in all areas of the company.

What you will need:

  • Have a Degree or HND qualified in electronics, mechatronics or equivalent

  • An engineer with specialist knowledge and experience of developing ATE for production test of electronic products ranging from small low density PCBs, through high density PCBs to large multi PCB assemblies.

  • You will be comfortable with fundamental electronics and schematic drawings so as to be able to understand the equipment under test and to be able to design the test equipment.

  • You will have demonstrable experience of as many of the following areas as you can tick: LabViEW (essential for senior roles), Analogue Electronics, Digital Electronics, Microcontrollers, Power supplies, Audio, Schematic capture, Mechanical CAD, Appreciation of PCB design, Appreciation of mechanical design, Prototyping, Bench testing, Fault finding, Project management, ATE, DFM, DFT, EMC, LVD, etc.
