Quantity Surveyor

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a leading organisation operating within the power sector. This is a permanent position based in Birmingham, involving a mix of office and home working. The role offers responsibility across both live projects and tender opportunities, ideal for someone with strong NEC3/NEC4 expertise and proven experience managing commercial aspects of major projects.

Hybrid working: 3 days in the office and 2 days from home

Client Overview Our client is a respected player in the power sector, delivering large-scale, complex projects safely and efficiently across the UK. Their approach focuses on collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence.

Responsibilities

• Provide commercial support across projects and tender activities within the power sector
• Lead all aspects of commercial control in alignment with NEC3 and NEC4 contracts (Options A and C)
• Prepare, negotiate, and administer subcontracts through to final account stage
• Handle monthly reporting both internally and to clients in line with contractual and procedural requirements
• Drive optimisation of cash flow through activity schedule development, valuations, and subcontract management
• Identify and manage commercial risks, opportunities, and value engineering initiatives
• Accurately administer change events, early warnings, and compensation events through to implementation
• Prepare cost estimates and tender documentation
• Support and mentor junior commercial team members to enhance capability

Must-have Requirements

• BSc in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent) with a minimum of 3 years’ experience, OR
• HND and 4 years’ experience, OR
• GCSE and 6 years’ relevant experience
• Chartership or working towards chartership with RICS or similar body
• Proven experience with NEC3/NEC4 contracts (Options A & C)
• Previous exposure to the Power Transmission & Distribution sector (preferred)
• Strong MS Office skills and ability to read/interpret project programmes
• Excellent analytical and communication skills, capable of managing multiple priorities

Nice-to-have Skills

• Understanding of construction methods, technology, and standard measurement forms
• Tendering and cost estimating experience
• Knowledge of risk management and financial compliance processes
