Duration: 3 months contract
Location: Hull
Hours: 4 days per week – 12 hour shifts on rotation. Day Shift: 6am-6pm. Night Shift 6pm-6am.
Reporting to the Local Distribution Manager (Hull), the Team Lead position is responsible for assisting in the daily operational management of drivers in the Hull Liquid Bulk Terminal. The Team Lead shall provide EH&S, Transport, Operational and Quality Support to the distribution team while ensuring that our daily activities are conducted efficiently and in accordance with all safety, quality and service standards applicable within the Sub-Region Industrial Gases Organisation.
The main responsibility is assisting in the coordination and provision of well-trained Driver Resource in the Hull Terminal meeting our customer and operational requirements. The position will also occasionally have responsibility for some basic HR-related activities where appropriate, such as note-taking in meetings. In addition, the position will also ensure that the Transport element of the Terminal is operating within all Legislative and Company Requirements. The Team Lead is responsible for coordinating the Daily Distribution Activity in an efficient manner and in addition, will help drive Improvements in Costs and Compliance using Key Metrics.
The additional responsibility is the out-of-hours support of other Terminals across the country, being available for drivers whose local support is out of the office for the evening, the weekend or potentially for holidays. This will be primarily dealing with reporting of absence, dealing with issues and queries and providing support to Scheduling, Planning and Fleet teams with regards to driver related queries. Requirement will be to provide detail in handover when handing terminal back to its local supervisor.
This position is accountable for:
Ensuring Company’s and Legislative Safety Standards and processes are complied with and maintained at all times on sites, and for personnel and vehicles that the position is responsible for.
Ensuring Licence Compliance – to include Truck Maintenance, Net Defect Reporting, Tachograph Compliance and Record Keeping.
Supervising the daily activities of all Drivers within remit.
Managing and Planning the Holidays of all personnel under their Supervision and providing resource for holiday cover as well as liaising with Schedulers on Resource Availability for daily/weekly scheduling.
Providing Support to investigate matters of a potential Disciplinary nature, and to provide note taking support in Disciplinary Hearings.
Planning and Coordination of Vocational Training for drivers within the region - Driver CPC, ADR Training, HGV Refresher Training, Annual Driving Assessments and any other training, where required, for all personnel (in conjunction with the Driver Trainers).
Driver coaching to ensure operational productivity and efficiency
Providing suggestions on areas where productivity can be gained
Controlling and Participating in Vehicle Accident Emergency Responses for the southwest region
Providing Local Distribution Supervisor with Feedback on the out-of-hours activity of all sites as required.
Providing a shift end summary of all activity to Regional Distribution Manager and Local Manager
Participating in the maintaining of good Local Level Industrial Relations in conjunction with 24/7 distribution Supervisor, Regional Distribution Manager and HR
Management and follow up of the Driver Observation Reports, Vehicle Reports, Site Observation Reports, Customer Complaints & Run Outs in conjunction with person responsible.
Debriefing of infringements as they occur and as notified by Vision system
Provide regular support by running outstanding infringement debriefs, and by reviewing videos from system which are received.
Providing a “helpline” for all drivers across the country when local supervision is absent.
Perform BSP activities for Hull-based drivers as required (TSOs, Housekeeping audits, etc.)
The ideal candidate will have;
Experience of Distribution with working knowledge of Transport Legislation
Experience in Supervising a team
Experience of building relationships with Industrial Relations Representatives
Transport Manager Certificate Professional Competence is preferred but not essential
Driver Licence /ADR and Driver CPC is preferred but not essential
