Senior High Voltage Engineer
Summary Join a leading organisation in London as a Senior High Voltage Engineer, specialising in the design and delivery of high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) infrastructure projects. This role is perfect for an experienced Electrical Engineer with a strong background in substation design and multidisciplinary project delivery. You’ll play a key role in developing innovative solutions for energy infrastructure projects while working with some of the most respected experts in the industry.
Location and Working Pattern
London-based, primarily office-based with regular client meetings, workshops and site visits across Ireland, the UK and Europe.
Client Overview
Our client is a global company expanding its Energy Infrastructure capabilities. They deliver complex engineering projects across a range of industries, focusing on innovation, quality and sustainability.
Responsibilities- Lead the delivery of HV and MV infrastructure projects, including AIS/GIS substations, grid connection infrastructure and interconnectors
- Develop and review single line diagrams, substation layouts, protection and control philosophies, and HV cable systems
- Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, including internal engineers, external consultants and subcontractors
- Interface directly with clients, utilities, contractors and regulatory bodies
- Support the development of technical standards, team recruitment and mentoring initiatives
- Review technical studies such as load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, harmonics and earthing studies
- Oversee project planning, tendering and technical bid reviews
- Conduct site visits, inspections and commissioning activities as required
Must‑have Requirements- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- 8–15+ years’ experience in HV/MV electrical engineering
- Proven track record in delivering HV substation projects up to 400kV
- Strong knowledge of IEC, BS, EN and IS standards
- Experience in substation design principles and utility/grid connection requirements
- Familiarity with design software and tools such as AutoCAD, ETAP, PowerFactory and PSCAD
- Excellent communication, reporting and client engagement skills
Nice‑to‑have Skills- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
- Prior experience in consultancy environments
- Experience managing or coordinating engineering teams
- Knowledge of technical standards and procedure development
