Senior Engineer

A Senior Engineer is responsible for taking the lead on technical projects within the engineering team. As a senior engineer, you will help to design, develop and test new solutions – as well as being responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting existing asset and infrastructure.

The most important skills a Senior Engineer should possess are technical knowledge, problem-solving, leadership, the ability to support junior colleagues, communication skills and being able to interact well with people. A Senior Engineer is responsible for overseeing the development of projects from concept to completion. The Senior Engineer ensures project goals are met, budgets are kept under control and work is delivered safely to industry regulations.

To be a Senior Engineer, you will typically be expected to hold a formal qualification, such as a degree, have extensive experience in your industry and be able to communicate complex concepts effectively. To undertake a Senior Engineer role you must have good knowledge of various engineering aspects such as maths, physics and electronics.
