Colleagues in the Wigan Recruitment and Group Support Office teams are taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge on Sunday 15th August to raise funds for Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

The challenge is part of the NRL Group’s year of giving back, where colleagues from branches across the UK and internationally have chosen local charities and initiatives to support each month throughout 2021.

What is the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge?

The walk covers 24 miles of terrain, tackling the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. The route, which has a total ascent of 3064 metres, is extremely popular for novice and advanced walkers keen to challenge themselves whilst taking in the stunning views.

For NRL’s team of six, this will be the first time many of them have taken on such a lengthy and gruelling challenge.

A month of support for the local hospice

The Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge is just one of the activities being undertaken during their August fundraising month. Colleagues from NRL’s Wigan Recruitment, Group Support Office and Workforce Solutions business Linx, are working together to support their local hospice.

From hosting a charity shop donation bank and cake sale in the office, to purchasing a monthly dress down pass - every little will help to drum up donations.

About Wigan and Leigh Hospice

Wigan and Leigh Hospice is a charity which provides the care and support needed for anyone in the local community who has been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness which is no longer curable. Providing palliative and specialist end of life care, the dedicated team support families both at the hospital and within the community.

Like most UK hospices, they rely on donations to top up the funding available to them to ensure they can continue to deliver these vital services. As a registered charity, they estimated they need to fundraise almost £10,000 a day to keep services running - something they're only able to do thanks to the care and support from local residents.
