As Mental Health Awareness Week 2025 drew to a close last week, it was incredible to reflect on the significant strides made in supporting mental wellbeing and raising awareness for this important cause. Across the NRL Group we’ve fostered a culture of empathy, understanding, and proactive support towards mental health – both for our own colleagues and among our contractor workforce. For this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week we strove to make a tangible difference, taking in part in a number of wider initiatives as well as driving change with some developments of our own.
Launching Wellbeing at Work, our own worker wellbeing app
To kick off the week, and cement our ongoing commitment to the mental wellbeing of our contracting community, we were proud to launch our new worker wellbeing app. This platform has been thoughtfully designed to provide NRL contractors with easy access to an array of guidance, tools, and support mechanisms tailored to support their mental wellbeing. From mindfulness exercises to expert advice and signposting useful resources, the app aims to empower our workers to address any mental health challenges they may be struggling with and encourage them to reach out for more support if they feel they need it.
Inviting our colleagues to enjoy a complimentary coffee on us
The theme of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week was ‘community’, and we felt it was important to recognise the tight-knit relationships formed across our teams and reward our colleagues’ hard work and effort. We offered a token of appreciation to every member of our staff in the form of a £5 Costa coffee voucher, inviting them to indulge in a complimentary drink and take a well-deserved break – either as a nice treat for themselves, or to catch up over coffee with a friend or family member. It was great to hear how some of our colleagues planned to use theirs.
Looking the part for Wear it Green Day
Thursday 15th May marked 'Wear it Green Day', an event intended to raise awareness and fundraise for the Mental Health Foundation which we were happy to play a part in. Our teams dressed the part and helped collect some important donations for the charity, and we were delighted to see and share their photos from the day. Thanks to our colleagues’ efforts, contributions and a match funded donation on behalf of the NRL Group, we were able to raise £250 for the charity to support the excellent services they provide to individuals struggling with their mental wellbeing.

An insightful conversation with our Mental Health First Aiders
Earlier in the year we were pleased to highlight the impressive milestones of two of our colleagues as they reached 5 years in their voluntary Mental Health First Aider roles. For Mental Health Awareness Week, we were delighted to reach out to Donna and Amanda once more to hear some of their insights and experiences in their roles, as well as their thoughts on how the general mentality around mental health has shifted in recent years, reducing the stigma surrounding it.
Elevating the mental wellbeing message
We also set forth a challenge during the week. Our website blog tasked readers with taking a moment to pause their busy schedules and take some time to stop and think about their overall wellbeing, be it physical, mental or emotional. Self-care is an important but often overlooked exercise, and it only takes a few minutes to reflect on whether you have the right techniques in place to manage your wellbeing – which is why we were happy to share some tips, advice and resources that anyone can benefit from.
Starting a conversation around mental health can be a tricky thing to do, but it can have a major impact on someone’s day-to-day mood and feelings. It’s fantastic to see our colleagues embrace this attitude wholeheartedly, and this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week was a real moment of pride to see their efforts so positively received. It will remain an important topic we continue to champion, and we hope our involvement is able to help anyone who needs it get the support they deserve.
