NRL are currently recruiting for a Project Manager to work on a 6-month contract with a client of ours, based in Milton Keynes, however remote working will be possible.

 

Role Responsibilities:
  • Take responsibility within the specific discipline to inform and contribute to the shaping of the delivery of projects and sub-projects across the programme to meet the needs of our client’s customers, internal and external.
  • Prepare and manage project schedules, costs and risks as directed
  • Work closely with the Operations Contract Executive to ensure that progress for each individual element of the project is maintained against the project plan.
  • Assist in the development of the operational contacts model to inform the content of discussions with the DfT and the ORR
  • Assist in the development of the Track Access Contracts and Station and Depot Contracts for the full route
  • Assist in development of appropriate performance regimes (Schedule 4 and 8)
  • Prepare and manage project schedules, costs, and risks where directed.
  • Analyse project data, understand trends, and coordinate responses to issues that have the potential to impact on successful delivery of the project and its outcomes.
  • Facilitate and support continuous improvement and innovation activities.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate, professional, and pro-active working relationship with supplier’s project management team.
  • Co-operate with our client in all matters relating to health and safety, including following safe working procedures always.
  • Act as a role model for our client’s vision and values, behaving in ways that are aligned with our client’s Ways of Working, as well as encouraging and supporting others to do so too.
  • Promote diversity in the workplace and adopt appropriate behaviour when interacting with colleagues.
 

Role Requirements:
  • Detailed knowledge of railway track access contracts
  • Working knowledge of rail industry legal rules and guidelines.
  • Good knowledge of and experience of writing plans and procedures.
  • The proven ability to review and assure solutions within a complex technical environment.
  • Experience of providing operational support for large, technically complex, safety focused and regulated projects, where there are multiple, complex interfaces.
  • Working knowledge of best practice in an engineering and technical environment across the asset lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and HSSE regulations.
  • Ability to analyse complex data, draw effective conclusions, and rapidly produce solutions and decisions.
  • An understanding of risk control and evaluation methodologies.
  • A good understanding of continuous improvement methodologies and ideas.
  • Broad experience of working on project management for a complex, safety focused and regulated organisation with multiple complex interfaces, and delivering to time budget and quality.
  • Demonstratable experience of stakeholder management, working across organisations and governing bodies to help achieve goals
  • Experience leading and/or participating in continuous improvement/innovation deployment in an engineering/construction environment.
  • Experienced in using virtual project support methods and tools and managing teams in a virtual environment such as ‘DOORS’ ‘ACONEX’ ‘SharePoint’ and ‘ARM Express’.
  • Degree qualified in an engineering or business discipline or an experiential equivalent (desirable)
  • Chartered membership of a relevant professional body
  • An articulate written and oral communicator.
  • Strong ability to engage, influence and manage stakeholders.
  • Unswerving in their attempts to seek the best value for the taxpayer.
  • Comfortable in a politically influenced environment where strategic change may frequently lead to a new approach and a sudden reworking of previous efforts.
  • Intrinsically flexible in a role which grows and changes as the project develops, doing whatever is necessary to deliver the desired outcome.
  • Well versed in all the basics of project management – including controlling cost, schedules, and risks.
  • Proficient in using analytical skills to develop and deploy incisive mitigations.

  • A strong enthusiast of a paradigm shift in working practices and project reporting, using technology to drive successful delivery and productivity change.
  • Driven to lead a step change in how documentation is used, and how bureaucracy can be drastically cut to aid delivery certainty.
  • Adept at balancing competing needs and pressures to achieve strategic aims.
