Nrl are recruiting for a Valve Technician on a contract basis based in the West Midlands.

The role of a Valve Technician is to provide support in order to maintain the supply of clean water to our customers through maintenance of our underground assets, also provide specialist pressure management services by maintaining underground pressure controlling assets and sustain a commitment to customers by responding and resolving any issue raised. 

Key Accountabilities:
Carry out distribution operational activities – servicing and maintaining pressure control valves on the water distribution network. Pressure, flow and disinfection management, valve operations and valving for interruptions to supply. These operations will include both simple / low risk and complex / high risk valve operations.
Carry out a wide variety of tasks on the distribution network. Work for the technician is scheduled centrally and information and job details are sent via the laptop.
Responsible to deliver the work scheduled to him/her in accordance with the Companies service level agreements or customer service standards.
Accountable for their own health & safety and have a duty of care to their colleagues & anyone affected by the work they do, for example general public / site personal. There is a need to exercise judgment / balance on the resourcing of these activities, the risk / impact of pressure management activities affecting customers, the general public, and road-traffic users and to ensure compliance with our statutory, regulatory and company standards at all times.
Be able to effectively assess the location of future asset replacement work by colleagues, in order that the correct arrangements can be made for “right first time” resolution.
Be able to carry out risk assessments in conjunction with own tasks and that of follow on work.
Perform the duties of the role in compliance with statutory or regulatory standards, e.g. – hygiene, NRSWA (New Roads & Street Works Act) and environmental.
Deliver excellent customer service in accordance with the Companies policies and standards with an aim to deliver the job right first time.
Exhibit the right behaviours and responsibilities described in the behaviours model and to support the continual improvement.
The role will undertake the full range of duties involved in delivering an effective company leakage target, this will include DMA (District Metered Area) meter repairs and validation under DMA Improvements. Trunk main inspections will also be part of your duties
 
Experience:
Experience in a problem solving role where repairs are carried out.
Knowledge and experience of working with pressure reducing valves and flow modulators.
Maintaining distribution meters
Knowledge of the water distribution network.
Significant experience / training in a similar utility based industry.
IT skills and computer literate.

Qualifications:
Essential:
Full UK Driving Licence
Maths & English GCSE grade C

Desirable:
NVQ Level 2 or City & Guild Training in Customer Service,
Underground Cable Detection or Leakage.
Manual Handling Training.
NRSWA.
National Hygiene Card SEV09 – Confined spaces qualification.
