Job Title Senior Project Engineer – Electrical (Data Centre Retrofits)
Summary We’re seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer – Electrical to lead retrofit and upgrade projects within live data centre environments across the UK and wider EMEA region. This role can be based from
either Birmingham or London office, offering a chance to work on technically challenging projects that require innovation and precision. 9-day fortnight schedule with every second Friday off.
Client Overview
Our client is a leading engineering consultancy recognised for delivering cutting-edge retrofit solutions across mission-critical facilities. Known for engineering excellence and innovation, they specialise in ensuring safe and efficient upgrades without operational disruption.
Responsibilities- Lead the design, planning and delivery of electrical retrofit projects in operational data centre environments.
- Develop strategies for live system tie-ins, outage planning and resilience.
- Carry out or manage technical assessments of existing facilities to unlock additional capacity.
- Produce and review detailed technical documentation, schematics and reports.
- Manage project budgets, timelines, and mitigate live-environment risks.
- Liaise directly with clients, contractors and vendors to ensure seamless project execution.
- Enforce robust QA processes and compliance protocols.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across the retrofit team.
Must-have Requirements- Demonstrable experience delivering electrical engineering works in live data centre or mission-critical environments.
- Strong understanding of LV/MV distribution, UPS systems and standby generator integration.
- Skilled with AutoCAD and Revit; experience using Amtech, ETAP or similar tools is preferred.
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or comparable discipline.
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in building services engineering, including high-complexity retrofit projects.
- In-depth knowledge of IEC, BS and related standards.
Nice-to-have Skills- Chartered Engineer status or close to achieving it.
- Knowledge of sustainability frameworks such as BREEAM or LEED.
- Familiarity with BMS, EPMS and smart building systems.
