Job Title: HSE Specialist

Location: Suffolk

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced HSE Specialist to join our clients project team for a major substation expansion project. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that all site activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in
full compliance with relevant legislation, company standards, and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain HSE plans, procedures, and risk assessments specific to substation and electrical construction activities.

  • Monitor site operations to ensure compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and permit conditions.

  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and incident investigations, ensuring timely reporting and follow-up on corrective actions.

  • Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and HSE training to site personnel and subcontractors.

  • Promote a proactive HSE culture across all project teams.

  • Liaise with project management, engineering, and client representatives to align safety objectives and performance targets.

  • Manage environmental monitoring, waste management, and pollution prevention measures.

  • Support emergency preparedness and response planning.

Qualifications & Experience

  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent Level 6 qualification in Occupational Health & Safety).

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in HSE roles within the power, utilities, or heavy construction sectors.

  • Proven experience working on substation, transmission, or electrical infrastructure projects.

  • Strong knowledge of relevant HSE legislation, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 systems.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and engage diverse teams.

  • Valid CSCS / Safety Passport or equivalent.

Working hours - 50 p/week
