Your questions answered about working abroad

What will the pay arrangement be?

This varies by country, but you’ll typically be paid in local currency - either directly by the employer, via the recruitment company, or their local payroll partners, to ensure compliance with local employment laws. The specifics will be discussed with you during the process, and we’ll make sure your payroll is fully compliant.

Do you sponsor visas?

Depending on the entry requirements and immigration rules for the country we’ll arrange any visas or work permits you’ll need.

How long does the relocation process take?

This will vary from country to country, but we’ll keep you updated throughout the process.

What countries can I work from?

We regularly support our clients with their recruitment needs across the globe, with capability in over 70 countries, so our recruitment team will be able to discuss our latest vacancies with you.

How long will my contract be?

Contract lengths differ subject to the work you’ll be completing, some roles may be for a few weeks or months, and some for longer periods of time.

Can I relocate with my family?

If relocating with family is something you're considering, you can discuss this with our team during the application process.

Navigating international recruitment terminology

If you’re new to working internationally you may have seen acronyms and recruitment terminology on job descriptions that you don’t understand.

To help, we look at the key ones you’ll need to know.

Employer of Record (EoR)

This is the solution used when a company wishes to engage workers in a specific location, but do not have a legal entity in the country. You’d be working for the client operationally, but your payroll and contract of employment would be with the recruitment company, as your Employer of Record for tax purposes. This is because the client may not have a legal entity or ability to run a local payroll. It’s a popular option for businesses looking to grow their geographical capability, as it ensures compliance with local laws.

Global Mobilisation

Once you have the job you’ll need to prepare to relocate, and that’s where global mobilisation services come in. We support our clients to secure the correct visa and travel documentation for new workers, as well as organising your travel plans such as flights. Depending on the services the client or candidate requests, this can also include booking temporary accommodation and providing a meet and greet for you on arrival to finalise paperwork at government offices.

In-country compliance

Employment law and working rules vary from country to country, in-country compliance typically refers to the specific details for each country. Our role is to have a comprehensive understanding of these, from public holidays to processing sick leave entitlement and pension contributions – so we can advise you and ensure you remain compliant.

Supporting Sorin with his next career move to Egypt

NRL’s MENA Area Manager, Hazem Ayoub, supported a client recruiting an Operations General Manager for their Cairo refinery by connecting with Sorin Constantin after an extensive search. Based in Oman, Sorin carefully considered relocating to Egypt with his family.

Throughout the process, Hazem provided ongoing support - answering questions, arranging a visit to Cairo and the refinery, and assisting with contract negotiations. Once the role was confirmed, NRL’s international team helped with mobilisation, ensuring Sorin had the necessary travel documentation and his family received full relocation support.

“Thanks to the personal attention of Hazem in NRL’s Cairo branch, my family and I were given extensive support to relocate to Egypt to commence work in a prestigious role, working as EPROM’s Operations General Manager. Hazem and the team spent considerable time assisting me with mobilisation plans, and he was kind enough to provide a personal tour and insights on local amenities upon my visit. Once I started in the role, his personal support to my family and I continued.”
