Living in Cyprus

Living in Cyprus offers a Mediterranean lifestyle with a moderate cost of living. In major cities like Limassol and Nicosia, costs tend to be higher. 

  • The average cost of a weekly grocery shop for a small family is roughly 70 - 120 

  • Monthly rent averages around 1,000- 1,200 in more affordable areas, while in Limassol it is often over 2,700 a month for an apartment 

  • Childcare typically costs between 300 - 700 a month, varying by city and service level 

  • Fuel prices change regularly, but generally hover around €1.40 - €1.60 per litre of petrol and around €1.46 - €1.60 for a litre of diesel 

In Cyprus, vehicles drive on the left-hand side of the road, seatbelts are mandatory for all passengers and mobile phones may only be used with hands-free devices. Foreign nationals can use an international driving permit (IDP) or their home country licence for up to six months before exchanging it for a Cypriot licence. If you hold an EU, UK, or certain other foreign license, this can generally be exchanged for a Cypriot one without taking a driving test. If you hold a licence from a country without a reciprocal agreement, you will be required to complete both the theory and practical driving tests.

Cyprus experiences a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters. During summer, daytime temperatures typically reach 30 - 38°C, with evenings averaging around 22 - 25°C. During the winter months, daytime highs usually range between 15 - 20°C, with temperatures typically dropping to 7 - 10°C. The island averages more than 320 days of sunshine per year, making it one of Europe’s sunniest destinations.
