Average Salary

In Armenia, the average gross monthly salary across all sectors is around AMD 303,000 – 360,000 (roughly $700  $860) per month; this varies depending on industry and experience level. 

Expats working in specialist or technical roles typically earn well above this level. International professionals working in engineering, energy, infrastructure or senior IT roles can expect salaries starting from AMD 800,000 – 1,200,000 per month (approximately $2,000  $3,000), depending on expertise and employer. Senior engineers, energy sector specialists, project directors, and technical managers often earn between AMD 1,200,000 – 2,500,000+ per month (around $3,000  $6,300), particularly in multinational companies or donor-funded infrastructure and renewable energy projects. 

Expat compensation packages may also include relocation support, housing allowances, private health insurance, and performance bonuses.

Living in Armenia

Armenia offers a rich cultural landscape shaped by its ancient history, welcoming communities, and vibrant food and arts scene. Yerevan – the capital – is cosmopolitan with growing international ties, while smaller towns offer a quieter pace of life. The cost of living in Armenia is generally lower than in Western Europe or North America, though it is rising steadily in urban areas. 

  • A weekly grocery shop for a small family costs roughly AMD 30,000 – 45,000 ($80 – $120) 
  • Monthly rent for a 2 – 3-bedroom property costs, on average, AMD 180,000 – 350,000 ($430 – $850) 
  • Monthly childcare costs around AMD 70,000 – 130,000 ($170 – $320) 
  • Both petrol and diesel cost around AMD 350 – 450 ($0.85 – $1.10). These prices can fluctuate depending on regional and international oil markets. 

Vehicles in Armenia drive on the right-hand side of the road. Expats can generally drive using a valid foreign licence for a limited period (often up to 180 days), after which a local driver’s licence exchange or test may be required depending on nationality and agreement. 

Weather in Armenia

Armenia’s climate is continental, with hot, dry summers and cold winters. In summer (June – August), daytime temperatures typically range from 25°C  35°C, particularly inland. Winters (December – February) are cool, with frequent frost and temperatures often ranging from -5°C to 5°C, especially in the capital and central regions. Spring and autumn are generally mild and pleasant, with significant seasonal contrasts across the country.
