Are you ready to help shape the future of energy? Join a dynamic and supportive team working at the forefront of the UK’s nuclear power revolution — from delivering major new build programmes like Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C, to supporting next-gen technologies such as Small Modular Reactors and international power station projects.
About the Role We are currently seeking a Fire Engineer to support a major nuclear new build programme. This critical role focuses on conducting internal fire safety studies across all Nuclear Island buildings, ensuring that safety functions remain intact during potential fire events and that UK fire protection standards are fully integrated.
You’ll collaborate with Building Leaders, Safety Teams, Systems Engineers, Civil and Plant Layout Engineers, using advanced 3D modelling and simulation tools to deliver high-quality, regulatory-compliant fire protection strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Analyse 3D models to identify combustible materials in each zone
Simulate fire scenarios and calculate temperature development over time using MAGIC software
Assess risk to systems and propose mitigation strategies
Monitor and incorporate engineering changes affecting fire safety (e.g. cable trays, ductwork, electrical cabinets)
Conduct regulatory fire life safety and protection assessments
Recommend effective fire detection and suppression methods
Develop fire zone layouts and conduct fire protection calculations
Support engineering and contract teams in implementing fire safety requirements
Provide justification for variances from BS9999 where applicable
Qualifications and Experience
Degree-qualified in Fire Protection, Safety Engineering or a related field
Strong understanding of UK Fire Regulations and BS9999
Experience in fire risk assessment and simulation tools (e.g., MAGIC)
Familiarity with nuclear standards (such as ETCF) is highly desirable
Ability to develop practical fire detection and prevention solutions
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
Capable of working under pressure and to tight deadlines
