Job Title: Lead Operator
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Lead Operator to oversee the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of a gas engine-based power generation facility. This role focuses on the day-to-day management of Wärtsilä reciprocating gas engines and associated systems, ensuring optimal plant performance and compliance with operational standards. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience with Wärtsilä engines and a strong understanding of power plant operations and grid coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine inspections of engines, generators, and auxiliary systems to detect and resolve operational issues promptly.
Monitor plant performance indicators, including efficiency, availability, and reliability, and implement optimization strategies.
Operate and control all plant equipment, including Wärtsilä gas engines, generators, and balance of plant (BOP) systems.
Manage fuel supply logistics, ensuring consistent fuel availability and adherence to quality standards.
Coordinate with grid operators for power output scheduling, dispatch, and load balancing.
Record and analyze operational data, reporting any anomalies or deviations from standard parameters.
Support maintenance teams in diagnosing and resolving mechanical and electrical faults.
Ensure strict compliance with safety, environmental, and operational regulations.
Operate Wärtsilä engines in accordance with OEM O&M manuals and liaise with customers and OEM representatives on technical and administrative matters.
Lead the execution of planned shutdowns and respond effectively to unplanned outages.
Conduct regular equipment walkdowns and inspections to ensure system integrity and performance.
Maintain accurate documentation of all operational activities in line with OEM procedures and client expectations.
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma or degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Power Engineering (or equivalent technical qualification).
Proven experience operating gas reciprocating engines, with specific expertise in Wärtsilä models.
Proficiency in SCADA systems and plant automation technologies.
Strong knowledge of power generation principles and grid operations.
Ability to work in rotating shifts and respond to operational emergencies as needed.
