Job Description: Operator 

Job Summary 

The Power Plant Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of gas reciprocating engine-based power generation systems. This includes monitoring plant performance, conducting inspections, managing fuel systems, and coordinating with grid operators to ensure optimal energy delivery. Experience with Wärtsilä gas engines is required. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Conduct regular inspections of engines, generators, and auxiliary systems to identify and resolve operational issues. 

  • Monitor and optimize plant performance metrics such as efficiency, availability, and reliability. 

  • Operate and control power plant equipment, including Wärtsilä gas engines, generators, and support systems. 

  • Manage fuel supply logistics, ensuring adequate stock levels and maintaining fuel quality standards. 

  • Coordinate with the grid operator for power output scheduling, dispatch, and load balancing. 

  • Record operational data and report anomalies or deviations from standard operating conditions. 

  • Support maintenance activities and assist in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical faults. 

  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards. 

  • Operate Wärtsilä gas engines following OEM O&M manuals and interact with the customer and OEMs on technical and administrative matters. 

  • Manage planned shutdowns and unplanned breakdowns. 

  • Operate and maintain GT Equipment and Balance of Plant (BOP), performing regular equipment inspections and walkdowns. 

  • Document all operations activities according to OEM standard procedures, ensuring plant performance aligns with the client's preferences. 


Qualifications 

  • Technical diploma or degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Power Engineering. 

  • Experience with gas reciprocating engines, specifically Wärtsilä models, is required. 

  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and plant automation tools. 

  • Strong understanding of power generation principles and grid operations. 

  • Ability to work in shifts and respond to emergencies.
