Role: Traffic Management Technician
Duration: 9 months contract to cover maternity leave
Location: Derbyshire Constabulary County Hall, Matlock, DE4 3AG
Rate: £18p/h PAYE
Hours: F/T – Hybrid working available, days TBC.
Key result areas include:
- To maintain an efficient road network by the avoidance, elimination or reduction of road congestion, or other disruption on the road network by coordination of roadworks and events on the network
- Assist with correspondence and reports in relation to network planning matters.
- Develop and implement an abnormal loads notification system to ensure and maintain a safe and reliable highway network.
- Co-ordinate and approve the movement of Abnormal Loads throughout Derbyshire
- Contribute towards solutions to address the needs and safety of road users.
- Dealing with matters associated with road works and special events to ensure that interruptions to traffic flow are minimised.
- Carry out site and traffic movement inspections, some of which may be outside normal office hours.
- Implement management data system to identify which structures are heavily trafficked.
- Identify routes that need to be on the resilient network
- Prepare letters and reports and assessments for internal /external parties within reasonable timescales.
- Investigate and respond to data enquiries relating to the movement of abnormal loads.
- Respond to external organisations in relation to abnormal load movements and road works.
- Update and assist in the management of the data held in the Asset inventory.
- Work closely with Civil Parking to ensure good maintenance of signs and lines; help carry out Parking Compliance Surveys, and deal with parking appeals as required.

Experience
- Knowledge of Traffic Management techniques and applications
- Use of computer systems in particular familiarity and competency in MS Office/MapInfo and Access Database and Excel applications
- Experience of working flexibly within a team
Skills and knowledge
- Relevant regulations, standards and legislation including The Highways Act, The road Traffic Regulation Act, The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1988 (C&U) and the Road Vehicles (Authorisation of Special Types) (General) Order 2003 (STGO), Traffic Management Act 2004
- Ability to prepare and maintain work programmes and work with minimum supervision Proven ability to work flexibly as part of a team Knowledge of local government policies and practices
- Computer Aided Design skills.
- Understanding of health and safety procedures in the workplace and for project development and supervision.
- Probing at interview and to work independently with initiative Proficient in the use of ICT
- Good communication skills with Public, Elected Members and other departments/agencies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to be able explain technical issues and liaise confidently with a range of internal and external people
- Proven analytical and problem solving skills Ability to research, analyse and present information Ability to write letters and reports.
- A knowledge of Traffic Legislation Efficient in the use of software associated with the movement of Abnormal Loads, Electronic Service Delivery of Abnormal Loads ESDAL
