A Senior Buyer in the engineering industry is responsible for negotiating and managing a range of suppliers to ensure that business goals are met. In other words, a Senior Buyer must be able to find the right suppliers and negotiate their terms, then communicate these terms to the company’s leadership and any other relevant stakeholders, before actively managing the relationships with their suppliers.

The Senior Buyer role usually sits within the supply chain department of an engineering company and is responsible for ensuring all materials necessary for meeting production targets are procured. Working as a Senior Buyer, you’ll need to have excellent communication skills, and a good knowledge of materials used within the industry in which you’ll operate. To be successful in this role, you will typically possess at least 5 years’ experience working in a Purchasing role or as a Buyer.
