About the role:
- The Automation Team Leader is responsible for a team of Control Engineers, DCS Engineers, Cyber Security & Admin. The purpose of the role is to ensure control systems and advanced applications (abnormal situation management / advanced control / optimisation / modelling) are deployed and maintained to meet business unit HSE/reliability and commercial targets. Responsible for defining strategy and the use of Automation technologies (DCS, PLCs, RTO, APC) for the complex.
- Ensure that all employees are provided with clear leadership, support, coaching and development to allow them to attain their full performance potential of the business
- Prepare A&M annual budget for approval and then authorize and control spend to meet site financial targets
- Define, implement and monitor asset care procedures to ensure reliable operation of control systems to meet business HSE/reliability targets
- Define, design and implement Automation solutions (as a service) to other teams in Engineering department
- Define and assist in deployment of Automation strategies to the businesses to meet their reliability/growth targets
- Maintain and ensure security of Process Control Network to prevent Cyber attacks on cross site plant control systems thereby meeting businesses availability and HSE targets
- Define standards/requirements and provide support to Purchasing and other Engineering teams to ensure Automation solutions meet business needs of cost and quality and reliability
- To continuously review technology within Automation industry to determine suitability
- Establish networks with other client businesses to understand benefits of transfer of good practices into and outwith local businesses
- Prepare key documentation of installed base technologies for use by non-technical business support to assets to identify integrity, reliability and obsolescence risks in order for them to develop mitigation plans to address the risks
- Act as lead technical support for Purchasing teams in order optimise opportunity for cost benefits in contract negotiations around the supplier bases whilst meeting technical objectives
- The jobholder will be appointed as the Control Technical Authority
- Interface with client IT organisation for Process control security/standards
- Provision of Automation expertise across whole project lifecycle to Study team
- Provision of Automation & Modelling expertise to Procurement team
- Control Technical Authority:
- Develop and maintain business relevant and appropriate control/dcs engineering site standards/specifications that meet industry standards (eg IEC, EEMUA) /best practice.
- Establish compliance criteria for assurance audits for the businesses.
- Compose and update details for the Grangemouth COMAH establishment report relating to the use of Control Systems and Advanced Controls in order to comply with our licence to operate.
- To assess requested deviations from site standards to determine the associated risk and impact to the site; reject if the risk is unacceptable.
- Key Skills and Experience:
- Chartered engineer (Chemical or Control), with vast experience in Process control / Automation
- Advanced understanding of commercial drivers and sources of value on Refining businesses
- DCS knowledge across Honeywell platforms
- Sound understanding of SIS technology & legal requirements/standards
- Advanced Control technology, incl multivariable controls (preferred DMC+) and Real-time optimisation.
