Connected Car TCU Design & Application Engineer

One of our top clients in the Automotive Sector are looking for a Design & Application Engineer to be based at their Cranfield site. The role is for an initial 12-month contract, and they are looking for someone to start ASAP.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement on-board telematics systems for all vehicles manufactured in Europe and Russia.
  • Generate and release TCU configuration data for complex applications.
  • Manage Tier 1 suppliers to deliver products to Quality, Cost & Timing targets.
  • Coordinate in house and supplier validation of TCU to standards ahead of new releases.
  • Collaborate with Off Board Connected Car team, test teams (both on board and off board) and customer orientated engineering team to confirm end to end system performance.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Marketing teams to ensure technical solution supports business objectives & with purchasing team to support sourcing and cost definition/reduction tasks.
  • Collaborate with related vehicle engineering sections to ensure all system components are packaged and connected correctly to meet system design and regulation requirements.
  • Status reporting to management at all levels.
What you will need:
  • Understanding and experience of telematics system developments or similar.
  • 5+ years’ experience in automotive electrical and electronic development or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience on a major development program, e.g., in aerospace, telecoms or similar.
  • Experience managing Tier 1 suppliers in the development of complex electronic products.
  • Solid understanding of both IOT and vehicle level protocols (MQTT, TCP/IP, CAN, UDS, Ethernet).
  • Experience co-ordinating complex BOM releases.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a cross cultural and cross functional team.
  • A pro-active approach and ability to self-manage.
  • Flexibility regarding working practice and working hours.
  • Availability to travel abroad, typically a few days to 2 weeks, but on rare occasions could be longer.
  • Competency with PC applications. MS office, Image editing etc.
