Overview
We are seeking a capable and hands-on Electrical Engineer to take ownership of electrical design and delivery across multiple group businesses specialising in the design, installation, and maintenance of standby power systems, including diesel and gas generator technologies.
This is a key technical role supporting several internal teams, including Solutions, Projects, Technical, and Commissioning. You will be responsible for designing, scoping, and supporting the delivery of LV and HV electrical systems from initial concept through to commissioning and handover.
The position is based in Glasgow and involves frequent travel across the Scottish Central Belt for site surveys, installation support, and commissioning activities.
Key Responsibilities
1. System Design & Scoping
- Conduct site surveys and develop electrical designs for LV and, where applicable, HV systems.
- Define system scopes and develop concept designs to support Solutions and Estimating teams.
- Assist in specifying equipment and contributing to pricing proposals for standby power solutions.
- Refine and finalise electrical designs for live projects, including cable sizing, protection settings, and equipment selection.
- Support the Project Delivery team with technical guidance throughout installation and commissioning.
- Provide assistance during procurement by advising on appropriate equipment and specifications.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation including:
- Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
- Cable schedules
- System descriptions
- Control philosophies
- Prepare and submit G99/G100 applications.
- Ensure all designs and installations comply with relevant electrical and industry standards.
- Develop testing and commissioning documentation to support safe system operation.
- Attend and contribute to internal and external design meetings.
- Lead technical discussions with clients, suppliers, and DNOs.
- Act as the primary electrical point of contact across multiple projects.
- Support colleagues within Solutions, Technical, Projects, and Commissioning functions as required.
- Provide onsite technical support during installation and commissioning, especially for complex electrical systems.
- Perform HV switching activities if qualified; otherwise coordinate with approved third-party providers.
- Engage with clients during site visits, ensuring technical clarity and smooth project delivery.
- Strong experience in LV and HV electrical system design and delivery.
- Competence in:
- Cable sizing
- Protection coordination
- General power system and generator integration design
- Working knowledge of G99/G100 standards and grid interface requirements.
- Experience producing power and control schematics, SLDs, and supporting documentation.
- Proficient in AutoCAD or similar CAD packages.
- Experience with standby diesel or gas generator systems is advantageous.
- HV SAP status is beneficial but not essential.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload across multiple projects.
- Commercially aware, with an ability to balance technical quality with practical site and cost considerations.
- Confident communicator with strong client-facing and cross-team collaboration skills.
