Salary - £45,000 - £50,000 per annum
Location - Somerset

About the Opportunity
NRL is proud to be recruiting a Fire Safety Advisor to support a major UK nuclear construction programme based in Somerset. This is a rare opportunity to work on a nationally significant, low-carbon energy project that will operate for decades and deliver long-term benefits to the UK’s energy security.
You’ll join a team of specialist fire safety and compliance professionals, reporting to the Fire Safety Manager, and play a key role in ensuring robust fire safety standards are established, implemented, and maintained across a large, complex nuclear construction site. The role offers long-term career prospects, exposure to a highly regulated environment, and the opportunity to make a real impact on safety and compliance.

What You’ll Be Doing
• Providing fire safety advice and guidance to the Principal Contractor, the wider contractor base, and relevant project committees.
• Supporting the development, implementation, and review of fire safety arrangements, policies, and procedures that meet UK legislation and industry best practice.
• Assuring compliance with statutory and regulatory fire safety requirements across the Somerset-based nuclear construction project.
• Advising Project Managers and design teams on fire safety matters, including the development of building fire strategies.
• Undertaking fire safety assurance audits, inspections, and monitoring activities across controlled areas and contractor work zones.
• Carrying out suitable and sufficient Fire Risk Assessments on behalf of the Principal Contractor.
• Reviewing Fire Risk Assessments produced by contractors and third parties.
• Reviewing DSEAR risk assessments to ensure fire and explosion risks are adequately identified and controlled.
• Working collaboratively with multiple contractors to maintain consistent fire safety standards across a complex, multi-contractor environment.
• Supporting continuous improvement in site fire safety performance through advice, assurance, and engagement.

What You’ll Need
• Proven experience undertaking fire safety risk assessments, audits, and compliance assessments within construction or commercial environments.
• Strong working knowledge of UK fire safety legislation and best practice.
• NEBOSH Fire Safety & Risk Management Certificate (or equivalent fire safety qualification).
• Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. Institute of Fire Engineers) or working towards it.
• Experience developing and implementing fire safety plans, policies, and procedures.
• Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders, project teams, and multiple contractors.
• A proactive, detail-focused, and professional approach to fire safety assurance.

Desirable
• Degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification in fire safety, engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience working on large infrastructure, energy, or highly regulated projects.
• Familiarity with multi-contractor construction environments.
• Experience reviewing DSEAR assessments.

Why This Role Is Attractive
• Opportunity to work on a flagship UK nuclear infrastructure programme.
• High-impact fire safety role in a safety-critical environment.
• Long-term programme with excellent stability and career progression.
• Strong safety culture and commitment to compliance and best practice.
• Exposure to complex construction activities and senior stakeholders.

Location / Working Arrangements
• Somerset-based project location.
• Site-based role
