HV Substations Engineer

Our client has a requirement for an experienced HV Substation Engineer.

Base Location Glasgow

Site locations various Scotland
Applicants MUST be UK national

You will be accountable for the following tasks including but not limited to a range of SSEN Transmission projects, AIS, GIS, up to 400kV some of them are new substations, and some of them are replacement or extensions.

Roles and Responsibilities

These are typical substation design work we do all over the country from FEED / Development phase to Detailed Design:

·       Provide Leadership on the FEED and detail design workstream for SSEN or National Grid.

·       Ensure adequate quality assurance and delivery of FEED, Detailed design and bids for SSEN, NGET and DNOs.

·       Ensure adequate resources and training of resources for the purposes of delivering FEED and detailed design work.

·       Review the HV plant aspects of different projects including HV layouts, earthing design and reports, mechanical interlocking, HV busbar calculations and technical specification for the HV plant equipment.

·       Coordination with back-office engineers, sub-contractors and suppliers as required.

·       Proven record of ability to manage tender packages as tender manager and doing HV plant aspects of technical offers.

·       Ability to attend and chair the design review and Hazard review meetings and reviewing HV plant design packages as required.

·       Attending site visits, FAT and SAT as required.

·       Strong communication skills along with teamworking attributes.

·       Customer focused when dealing with customers, identifying their needs along with business development skills.

Requirements

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline and Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution or working towards chartered status
  • Minimum 8 years of experience within an electrical discipline and experience in delivering complex multi-disciplinary projects, minimum 5 years of experience in UK working on National Grid or SSEN Transmission projects.
  • Relevant, professional experience in HV and LV experience and knowledge of Substations/ Primary Plant 132kV, 275kV, 400kV - Experience preparing design calculations, reports, and detailed drawings.
  • Leadership and Management: Strong leadership skills to manage teams and projects effectively.
