The role is initially on a 12-month contract and will be based in Rosyth.
About the role:
The role is within the complex shipbuilding programme, developing designs through concept and early stage design as well as supporting the bidding process. The role is for a Marine Structures Engineer (Naval Architect), which will require: -
- Determination of global loads (Still Water Bending Moment, Wave Bending Moment and Shear Forces) from classification societies’ rules and regulations
- Determination of local loads from classification societies’ rules and regulations
- Determination of scantlings (including midship section and other critical sections) from classification societies’ rules and regulations
- Determination of hull girder strength from classification societies’ rules and regulations
- Design and substantiation of Category A and B equipment seatings and foundations to meet military and commercial requirements
- Preparation and approval of specifications, technical reports and substantiation calculations
- Leadership of design teams and liaison with production teams, classification society representatives and other stakeholders (including supporting design reviews)
- Lead the development of innovative design solutions and processes
- Lead the implementation of health, safety and environmental requirements
- Lead the maintenance and improvement in quantity standards of outputs
- Ideally degree qualified but HND/HNC level qualification in naval architecture or marine engineering
- Be a member of a relevant institution (e.g. RINA, IMarEst etc.) and hold Chartered engineer status
- Either already UK Security cleared or able for achieve UK SC clearance
