Due to increasing demands, we have urgent requirements for Mechanical Fitters to work on the Devonport Royal Dockyard, details as below:

Starts available asap. Rate card rates apply. Six month contracts initially
Inside IR35 (Umbrella or PAYE)
Can start on escorted basis for a maximum of two weeks so BPSS forms must be complete and CRB at least applied for before training commences

About the role
Here at Devonport Royal Dockyard we’re looking for Mechanical Fitters to join the team that is at the forefront of supporting the Royal Navy fleet. You’ll play an integral role in ensuring the serviceability of warships and systems through detailed maintenance and refit periods by working within multi–trade teams.
Using your mechanical experience, you’ll remove, overhaul and install a variety of mechanical equipment which could include hydraulics, weapons, water and fuel systems and LP/HP air, among other assets. Working to engineering drawings and technical specifications, you’ll also install and align new equipment and carry out system and equipment functional tests and surveys.

What do I need to do the role?
You’ll have the ability to read engineering drawings to interpret work instructions and be competent in the use of general workshop machinery specific to mechanical fitting.
Ideally will have worked in the marine industry with experience of Royal Navy ships and submarines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels or large commercial ships - although other relevant experience will be considered.
You’ll need to hold qualifications in at least one of the following:

  • Indentured Apprenticeship

  • Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline

  • Armed Forces PO/CPO/NCO with mechanical specialisation

  • Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification
