Senior Mechanical Engineer — 6‑Month Contract (Outside IR35)
Location: Liverpool Docks
IR35: Outside
Start: ASAP

Lead design. Drive quality. Deliver mechanical excellence on a major project.

We’re looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who can take ownership of mechanical deliverables, guide junior engineers, and ensure designs meet the highest technical and safety standards. If you enjoy varied project work, autonomy, and influencing engineering decisions, this contract offers exactly that.

What you’ll be doing
  • Leading mechanical design activities and approving key drawings and deliverables
  • Producing specifications, data sheets and Scope of Work packages for equipment and installation contractors
  • Providing technical support during construction and commissioning when required
  • Attending interdisciplinary reviews, HAZOP/HAZID sessions, risk assessments and client workshops
  • Mentoring less‑experienced engineers and supporting the development of engineering standards
  • Liaising across disciplines to keep design, schedule and quality aligned
What you’ll bring
  • Strong background in mechanical design within engineering/project environments
  • Experience preparing equipment specs, piping/valve specifications, materials selection and fabrication requirements
  • Commissioning experience — particularly pumps, vessels or mechanical package installation — is a real advantage
  • Solid understanding of industry regulations (CDM, PER, PSSR, CE/UKCA)
  • Confident communicator who can collaborate effectively across engineering teams
Why this role?
