Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Slinger/Signaller. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting the safe and efficient movement of cargo during ship docking and unloading operations. This position involves working closely with crane operators, dockside teams, and vessel crews to ensure heavy loads are lifted, moved, and positioned safely.

Key Responsibilities
  • Load handling: Safely attach, sling, and secure cargo for lifting operations on large vessels.
  • Signalling: Provide clear, precise hand and radio signals to crane operators during lifting and docking activities.
  • Safety compliance: Ensure all lifting operations comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Team coordination: Work collaboratively with dockside staff, ship crews, and crane operators to maintain smooth cargo flow.
  • Equipment checks: Inspect lifting gear, slings, shackles, and signalling equipment before use.
  • Risk management: Identify hazards and take proactive steps to prevent accidents during cargo handling.
  • Documentation: Record lifting operations and report any incidents or equipment defects.

Qualifications & Skills
  • CPCS or equivalent certification as a Slinger/Signaller.
  • Experience in port or heavy lifting operations preferred.
  • Strong communication skills for clear signalling and teamwork.
  • Knowledge of lifting regulations including LOLER and PUWER.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced dockside environment.
  • Physical fitness to handle demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

Working Conditions
  • Location: Heysham
  • Environment: Dockside operations with exposure to large cargo ships, cranes, and heavy machinery.
  • Hours: 12hr days
