Tax and risk/compliance manager
JOB LOCATION: Amsterdam, Netherlands

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE
The Tax and risk/compliance manager will be a key member of the Finance team, responsible for managing the diverse tax affairs of the company across multiple jurisdictions. This role requires a strong understanding of international tax principles, transfer pricing, and the specific tax incentives and regulations relevant to the renewable energy sector. The manager will serve as the primary point of contact for tax authorities and will be instrumental in developing and implementing strategies to mitigate financial and operational risks. The successful candidate will work closely with finance, legal, and project development teams to support strategic decisions and ensure tax efficiency and compliance.
KEY MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Tax Compliance & Reporting:
Manage and coordinate the preparation and timely submission of all direct and indirect tax returns (Corporate Income Tax, VAT, Withholding Tax, etc.) for Group entities in the Netherlands, UK, UAE, and various African jurisdictions.
Liaise with external tax advisors and local finance teams to ensure accurate and compliant tax filings across all operational countries.
Prepare and review tax provisions for financial reporting (e.g., under IFRS), including deferred tax calculations and tax disclosures.
Ensure compliance with local tax regulations, reporting requirements, and evolving tax legislation in all relevant territories.
International Tax & Transfer Pricing:
Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Group's transfer pricing policies and documentation in line with OECD guidelines and local country regulations (e.g., BEPS Action Plans).
Support the analysis of intercompany transactions and arrangements to ensure arm's length compliance.
Monitor and advise on international tax developments (e.g., Pillar One, Pillar Two) and their potential impact on the Group's structure and operations.
Analyze and manage permanent establishment (PE) risks across the various project locations in Africa.
Tax Advisory & Planning:
Provide expert tax advice and support on new project developments, acquisitions, divestments, and financing structures in renewable energy, considering cross-border implications.
Identify and evaluate tax planning opportunities and risks, with a focus on optimizing the Group's tax position while maintaining compliance and sustainability.
Advise on the tax implications of specific renewable energy incentives (e.g., tax credits, accelerated depreciation, grants) available in different jurisdictions, particularly in Africa.
Support the legal and treasury teams on tax aspects of intercompany financing, hedging, and cash repatriation strategies.
Tax Audits & Controversy:
Manage and support tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities in all relevant jurisdictions, working closely with external advisors and internal stakeholders.
Prepare responses to tax authority queries and engage in discussions to resolve potential disputes.
Process Improvement & Risk Management:
Develop and implement robust tax control frameworks and processes to mitigate tax risks and enhance efficiency.
Utilize tax technology solutions to streamline tax compliance, reporting, and analysis.
Maintain comprehensive tax documentation and records.
Stakeholder Management:
Collaborate effectively with internal departments (Finance, Legal, Project Development, Treasury) and external advisors (local tax consultants, audit firms) across different time zones and cultures.
Communicate complex tax concepts clearly and concisely to non-tax professionals.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or relevant degree
Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) / ADIT (Advanced Diploma in International Taxation) or relevant qualification
Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in a corporate tax function of a multinational corporation or in the tax department of a "Big Four" or other reputable public accounting firm.
Solid understanding of risk management principles and internal control frameworks.
Transfer Pricing Certification
Hands-on experience in managing tax audits and controversies with tax authorities across different jurisdictions.
Familiar with international taxes especial (UAE, Netherlands, UK, Mauritius and other similar tax jurisdictions)
