Troon
Troon is a seaside resort town in South Ayrshire on the west coast of Scotland. It lies on the north shore of the Firth of Clyde and was once a major centre for shipbuilding and associated heavy engineering. Troon houses three golf courses, including the famous Royal Troon Golf Club, which has been host to The Open Championship several times.
Troon’s engineering sector offers a range of careers, such as mechanical and civil design. The local economy is supported by the likes of manufacturing companies in addition to those in more traditional industries like textiles and electronics.
The village of Troon is well connected to the surrounding area by public transport. There are buses that run regularly to Prestwick and Ayr, as well as buses to Glasgow which stop at Prestwick Airport. The village also has a train station providing regular services to Glasgow and Edinburgh.
