NRL are currently recruiting a Principal Structural Designer for an Oil and Gas based role in Aberdeen.

This is a contracted role with the duration of 6 months.

The Purpose of this Role:
- Execute structural design and draughting activities within budget and schedule Key aims and objectives:
- Execute design and draughting activities (Concept, Front End Engineering Development, Technical Study & Detailed Design) - Act as discipline focal point
- Prepare structural drawings and designs from agreed work scopes with minimum input from engineering personnel

Requirements:
Essential
 - HNC or equivalent in appropriate engineering subject
- Experienced designer with sound technical background and strong knowledge of manual and CAD draughting techniques
- Conversant with codes of practice, standards and relevant sections of statutory documentation applicable to draughting function
- Conversant with company quality control assurance requirements applicable to draughting function
-  Able to create base design drawings / models from agreed workscope with minimal input from engineering personnel
- Ability to accept delegated responsibility and control budgets for delegated tasks - Computer literate (database / spreadsheets)
- Able to provide draughting checking function as directed by lead designer
- Experienced senior designer with sound technical background and in depth knowledge of CAD draughting techniques
- Conversant with codes of practice, standards and relevant sections of statutory documentation applicable to draughting function
- Familiar with and competent in planning, progress monitoring, forecasting and reporting for draughting function
- Experienced in the supervision of discipline designers and draughtspersons - Able to estimate man-hours and materials for delegated aspects of work
- Able to liaise with project / lead engineers at all levels
- Computer literate (database / spreadsheets)
- Conversant with company and client draughting standards and specifications
- Conversant with company quality control assurance requirements applicable to draughting function

- Capable of generating co-operative team based culture for groups under his / her control
- Knowledge of personnel issues and aspirations of subordinates
- Able to take a lead in training and ongoing education of subordinates
- Able to contribute to group / discipline objectives applicable to draughting function 
- Able to identify improvement opportunities and techniques relevant to draughting personnel 
- Able to communicate clearly with engineering personnel  

Prime Responsibilities and Duties:
- Implement Company, and where applicable, Client / Project policies and procedures
- Supervision of design / draughting personnel and allocation of work
- Remain abreast of legislative requirements
- Approval, checking and preparation of design / engineering documentation
- Undertake tasks on behalf of Design Manager, Lead Engineer or Senior Engineer as directed
- Achieve safety standards as defined in personal performance contract
- Undertake work in accordance with relevant Codes, Standards and Procedures
- Responsible for assessing effectiveness of working practices and systems with a view to continuously improving systems, personal and team performance
- Carry out work in accordance with project Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality systems
- Carry out site surveys - Identify scope and schedule changes in accordance with the Change Control Process
- Ensure, as far as is practically possible, that all assigned work is carried out in compliance with the agreed budget and scheduled work scope
- Maintain required technical quality of work and awareness of relevant Codes and Standards
- Keep up to date with technical developments, National and International standards and legislative requirements related to discipline 
- Maintain filing system - Liaise with other disciplines, departments, project personnel, vendors, etc
- Encourage and provide lateral learning within the project
- Ensure all design drawings and documents are completed within the allocated hours and in accordance with the programme
- Advise Design Manager/Lead Engineer of changes in resources required

Allied Occasional Duties:
- Carry out site visits where necessary
- Assist in training and mentoring of junior personnel as required 
- Provide technical assistance to discipline assigned personnel as required 
- Assist the Lead Engineer and others when requested in the execution of their responsibilities and duties

This is a PAYE only role, and you will be submitted forward to the client with your desired hourly rate.
