About the role:
Responsible for:
- the elicitation and specification requirements such that the system of systems requirements are met.
- informing the EWR strategy and output requirements with expert technical advice and industry leading practice.
- aiding in the setting of the EWR Technical Strategy for requirements, including standards and principles to optimally achieve and then assure that the requirements have been met.
- assuring technical compliance through appropriate Verification & Validation and technical approvals.
- providing support and assurance to the EWR Enterprise and support the sponsor in challenging requirements to ensure that EWR deliver a railway system that is fit for purpose and meets legislative requirements and industry standards.
- delivering requirements elicitation and specification activities for the Enterprise to enable the delivery of an integrated railway system and the achievement of the necessary safety and performance outcomes.
- the engineering regulatory interfaces: in relation to requirements matters.
- actively managing and mitigating EWR system engineering and technical risks, including those related to requirements, whilst assuring that technical risk is appropriately managed within delivery partners.
- actively delivering the requirements specification approach across the Enterprise and playing a key role in the Target State Architecture activities.
- leading and supporting Delivery in implementing the Requirements Management Strategy, processes and tools working closely with your peers in the Engineering Directorate.
- actively managing and accelerating engineering innovation in relation to meet EWR challenges.
- acting as a role model for EWR Co.’s vision and values, by supporting the EWR Co. commitment to customer service, promoting diversity in the workplace, adopting appropriate behaviour when interacting with colleagues, and encouraging and supporting others to do the same.
- taking responsibility of your own and others’ health and safety by adopting and working to the EWR Co. Health and Safety principles, ensuring you follow safe working procedures at all times.
- Chartered or Incorporated engineer, or equivalent professional experience and training in the field of engineering or the equivalent in a technical and/or scientific discipline.

- Broad experience of delivering requirements elicitation and specification in a complex, safety focussed and regulated organisation with multiple complex interfaces.
- Extensive experience of applying the engineering lifecycle including requirements, specification, design, build and maintenance and verification and validation of same.
- Personal responsibility for successfully delivering requirements activities on a major programme in a safety critical industry, exercising Technical Experience to specify and assure delivered solutions.
- Extensive experience of holistic systems architecture specification and design, including requirements definition, apportionment and management and control of same on a multi-disciplinary programme.
- Detailed understanding of what requirements elicitation and specification is, what its critical dependencies are and how this should be applied and controlled on a safety critical programme.
- Excellent experience of educating and engaging with peers and stakeholders on requirements specification as a specialism.
- Extensive experience of change management, rapidly adapting to emerging requirements, changing circumstances and high levels of uncertainty and ambiguity in a fast-changing environment.
- Working within relevant UK rail industry legislation and standards.
