NRL are working with a leading Offshore Renewables client who now require a Senior Research and Development Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis.

You will develop and transfer to the rest of the business new power cable products and technology for the thriving offshore renewable energy sector, striving to meet key objective of ‘Best in Technology’.

This is a senior level role within the Product Development Team. Key work areas include cables and accessories with increased operating voltage and stresses.

This role will also provide line management responsibility for Research and Development Engineers as well as Graduates and Apprentices on rotation.

Main responsibilities of the role:

1. Research and develop new technologies and suppliers as part of specific allocated Product Development Programmes to meet identified product requirements as well as meeting customer requirements and relevant international standards.

2. Project Management of Product Development and Product Qualification Projects, including budgets, schedules and project management of both external and in-house functions (such as procurement, scheduling, manufacturing, termination and test) to ensure that quality, cost control and project schedules are maintained

3. Produce documents such as Design Specifications, Drawings, Technical Reports, Test Procedures, Purchasing Specifications and Qualification/Type Test Specifications and reports, Visual ERP documents, whilst ensuring a high level of accuracy is present in all documents. Checking and approval of such documents, subject to competence, is also expected as part of the daily activities.

4. Engage with suppliers, customers and third parties, using NDAs as applicable, in bringing appropriate new technology, new materials and new suppliers into, whilst maximising protection of IPR

5. Provide technical support for the marketing, sales, tendering, purchasing, design and production departments.

6. Responsible for employee relations in conjunction with HR and the Principal Engineer to ensure overall team performance and the implementation of company initiatives including the supporting of PDP’s and training needs analysis.

7. Represent at external technical events (e.g. Cigre working group representation, technical conference and seminar presentations) to continually strive to be regarded as a thought leader within the industry.

8. Transfer new product developments, once qualified, into the wider business workflows, including but not limited to: Engineering, Production, Quality, Sales and Purchasing departments.

9. Input to the Design Manual, defining the rules and process by which projects are engineered.

In addition to the above responsibilities, the role holder is required to undertake such duties and responsibilities as may reasonably be required from time to time.

Essential

 Degree qualified in an Engineering subject

 Ability to address technical issues from first principles

 Competent at report writing in English

 Competent user of engineering software such as CAD packages
