About the Project
The SIXEP Continuity Plant (SCP) is a critical infrastructure initiative at Sellafield, ensuring the long-term operation of the Site Ion Exchange Effluent Plant (SIXEP). Delivered by the Programme and Project Partners (PPP), SCP will safeguard Sellafield’s mission to create a clean and safe environment for future generations. Once operational, SCP will provide continued capacity to treat and make safe effluent generated by risk reduction activities across the site.
The Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated CS&A Site-Based Design Liaison Engineer to join the SCP team. Reporting to the SCP CS&A Responsible Engineer and working closely with Site Construction, you will act as the vital link between design and delivery. This role demands strong technical knowledge in civil, structural, and architectural disciplines, with a focus on reinforced concrete and structural steelwork.
Key Responsibilities
Liaise between design and construction teams to ensure quality and compliance
Resolve construction issues, technical queries (TQs), concessions, and production permits
Conduct and review specialist calculations, reports, and design documentation
Support manufacture through ongoing design reviews, including SDDRs and MDDRs
Manage specific design packages and ensure alignment with programme goals
Maintain assurance of CDM application and documentation
Prepare and justify design changes to uphold the CS&A design case
Attend off-site fabrication visits and multidisciplinary meetings as required
Technical Expertise
Proficiency in reinforced concrete and structural steelwork design
Familiarity with Eurocodes and willingness to adapt to their application
Experience with structural elements such as process cells, crane-supporting steelwork, pipe bridges, and civil groundworks
Understanding of architectural fit-out for industrial/nuclear facilities, including partitions, finishes, cladding, doors, fire strategy, and tie-ins to existing infrastructure
Knowledge of temporary works procedures and quality assurance processes
Qualifications & Experience
Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline (or HNC/HND with significant experience)
Proven experience in design liaison roles within complex construction environments
Strong communication and coordination skills across engineering and site teams
